In Early Childhood music class, children sing continually, as their voices are their primary instruments. We explore pitch and sound through multicultural songs, games, dance and movement. We accompany ourselves with basic classroom instruments like rhythm sticks and drums. As children progress through their Early Childhood years, they will experience group ensembles, basic part singing, and simple folk dances. Concepts like louder/softer, higher/lower, and faster/slower are woven into each lesson.
As students progress into Lower School, they continue to build on the foundation established in the earlier years. Students learn to sight sing, read and write simple rhythms, and play various classroom instruments like xylophones, drums and soprano recorders. Literacy is promoted through play party games, folk dances, and multiple hands-on fun activities.
